[edit] What is iCalendar?

iCalendar is the most widely-used standard format for storing and sharing calendar information.

[edit] Why would I use iCalendar?

Storing events in a standard format makes it possible to subscribe to a calendar feed in much the same way that we subscribe to news and blogs via RSS feeds.

[edit] Which applications support the iCalendar standard?

Most popular electronic calendar programs support the standard, including Microsoft Outlook 2007, Windows Vista Calendar, Apple iCal, and Google Calendar. A more exhaustive list of applications with iCalendar support is available on Wikipedia.

[edit] Where can I find some example iCalendar feeds?

The Apple iCalendar Library is a free source for many useful iCalendar feeds, including major holidays, movie release dates, and professional sports team schedules.
